CELEBRATING OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
The Safe Center was created by the merger of two not-for-profits which have served Nassau County since 1977. In 2014, the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Coalition Against Child Abuse & Neglect merged to form The Safe Center, the leading victim-service agency in Nassau County. Located in Bethpage, our team members respond to emergency departments, courts, hospitals and other locations as needed.
As the only organization in Nassau County providing free comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual and physical abuse, and human trafficking The Safe Center tirelessly serves our community. Our organization provides specialized support to our clients while serving as a model for addressing interpersonal violence in New York State. Those served by our agency can access a 24-hour domestic abuse and sexual assault hotline, legal assistance, crisis intervention, emergency safe shelter, referrals, short-term housing assistance, individual and group counseling, and hospital advocacy.
We partner with survivors and families to change the trajectory of their lives following the trauma of abuse. Our team also works within our community to provide critical education to end the cycle of abuse including information on how to recognize, respond to the needs of victims, and prevent abuse. Our all-encompassing suite of programs and services is a beacon of hope for the Long Island community.

Gallery of Hope: Special Exhibit
We are thrilled to announce that pieces from our 2024 Gallery of Hope will be displayed at our Annual Gala, hosted at the Nassau County Museum of Art, allowing for survivor pieces to shine next to the likes of icon artists such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and more.
The Gallery of Hope launched in October 2022 for Domestic Violence Awareness Month to create a platform for survivors of interpersonal violence to share their voices through art, including visual arts, music, poetry, and recorded performances. It is open to all victims, survivors, and those that love them on Long Island. Both children and adults are invited to contribute their art pieces.
If you or someone you know would like to make a submission, please complete this form here.
Please note that the main Gallery of Hope exhibit will also be on display at the Hicksville Public Library on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Survivor Speaker: Alicia Santandreu
This year The Safe Center is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the merger which created our organization as we know it today. This auspicious occasion was recently marked by a meaningful piece in Newsday.
The piece featured Cindy Scott who gave her perspective as one of our founders and details the vision she shared with co-founder Sandy Oliva.
We are also incredibly grateful to Alicia, one of our first clients served post-merger by The Safe Center in 2014, for sharing her story of survivorship, and hope.
Alicia is an inspiration to us all, and we are thrilled to have her share her journey at our Annual Gala.
